My Story
Andrea Dawn Wilson
Andrea Wilson has had a lifelong love of words, which led her to become a speech pathologist nearly 20 years ago. As the founder of ClearConvo, she spends her days supporting speech, language and literacy development as well as fostering a deep love of reading in both children and adults. When she isn’t helping clients unlock the power of communication, she is channelling her inner Roald Dahl to craft whimsical children’s stories and engaging adult fiction.
Andrea’s passion for storytelling runs deep. A lifelong writer, she served as a judge for the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year awards in 2024 and 2025. To further hone her craft, she has completed several courses through the Australian Writers' Centre, including Creative Writing Stage 1, Writing Picture Books, Writing Chapter Books for 6-9 Year Olds, Anatomy of a Crime: How to Write About Murder, as well as Fiction Essentials focused on Character and Structure, and Short Story Essentials.
Her adult short story, 'Bad Habits', was featured in the Down in the Dirt magazine anthology (Volume 161, Nov/Dec 2018). Currently, she is diving into the magical realm of speculative fiction, hard at work on her debut middle-grade novel. Many of her best ideas come straight from her dreams. She is a member of the Gold Coast Writers’ Association, a proud new member of the Ten Penners, and a former member of Write Links in Brisbane.
Originally from Canada, Andrea now calls Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast home, where she lives with her husband, their two children, and a very regal Burmese cat. If she happens to win the lottery, you will find her happily spending the rest of her days in libraries, bookshops and the beach.
