The Ten Penners has been a huge part of my life for many years. I have loved sharing the camaraderie of being a writer with like-minded people. We are all a bit mad and share a passion for sharing our stories with children.
We enjoy writing! We enjoy each other’s company and are always giggling when we hear our stories being read.
Last year Marion Martineer announced that she and her husband were moving from the Gold Coast to start a whole new adventure together. She had been the coordinator of our group for about sixteen years. When she asked me to take over I agreed. Not without some trepidation, she had done such a wonderful job for so long – could I live up to her example?
I think running our monthly meetings is a joy. Putting this book together has been an amazing group effort. As this is our fourth book release, we’ve had a bit of pre-warning as to the task involved. Writing the stories is the easy bit!
We’ve had to deal with changes. Simple venue restrictions forced us to meet in cafes, and now we meet in our homes, where we have more freedom to laugh and still have our caffeine boost.
I write up a rundown of each meeting and post it on our chat page. We keep on track with each other’s achievements. For this book launch, I’ve been arranging the blog tour, blog tour hosts, media release etc. I come up with ideas for homework which often is an idea rather than a reality. We share each other’s ups and downs. Being part of a writing group is a cooperative writing, living experience. I wouldn’t change a moment of it.
As per the previous post, colour the Quoggle and win The Ten Penners Activity Prize Pack.
